Breaking News: The Case of the Goat

How would you feel if you lived next to a family that owned goats? A Fortville couple believes that they are being harassed because they own two goats. The first goat they bought for its milk, and the second to keep the first company.

Goat Haters Side:

The city prohibits farm animals such as: cows, bulls, pigs, horses, chickens, bees or rabbits. ( Note, that there is no specific mention of "goats.")

Goat Milk Drinkers Side: They're just like pets, or large dogs.

What do you think?

Do you think the Goat Drinkers are taking advantage of a loophole in the city ordinance laws? Or are the neighbors just jealous because they don't get fresh goat's milk everyday?

News: Look Out Dog Breeders Of Vermont!!

Two pending bills might put new restrictions on dog breeders in Vermont:

First:

House Bill 769 will:

-deny a kennel permit to anyone who sells 20 or more litters or 100 or more domestic dogs or wolf-hybrids in any 12 month period

-require permits for anyone who owns or keeps two or more domestic pets or wolf-hybrids 4 months of age or older for sale or breeding purposes

Second:

Senate Bill 341 will:

- limit the number of dogs a breeder can sell in one year
( under this bill a "dog breeder" means anyone who sells a litter of puppies per year for money)

Dog Breeders must:

-immunize each puppy with distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenze, parvovirus and coronavirus vaccine between 7 and 8 weeks of age
-certify each puppy by a vet on a state-prescribed form, as fit and healthy and received appropriate vaccinations before 8weeks old

Dog Breeders must not:

- donate, sell or separate a puppy from the litter until at least 8weeks old
- sell or donate more than 19 litters or more than 100 dogs in any calendar year

Breaking News: PETA vs AKC: Round 3

Does this commerical offend you? Well you're not alone! Sandusky, Ohio is pissed!

Sandusky has banned this commerical from thier TV stations commenting that the ad is "too direct and controversial."

This all comes down to PETA vs AKC... again!.

Here's PETA's defending itself, found on thier PETA media center:

PETA condemns the AKC as irresponsible because it discriminates against mixed-breed dogs, promotes dog breeding, and spurs people to buy purebreds while animal shelters overflow with unwanted mixed-breed dogs who desperately need homes. A conservative estimate indicates that one Cleveland-area animal shelter alone takes in about 11,000 homeless animals each year, and many of them had to be euthanized.

"Those who are offended by the reprehensible actions of the two Ohio state troopers and the racist principles of the KKK should also be offended by the AKC's similar contempt for 'mixed breeds' and fetish for 'pure bloodlines,'" says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. "Not only does the AKC promote breeding as a 'sport,' it also opposes spay-and-neuter laws that would save the lives of hundreds of thousands of animals."

Breaking News: HUMAN-COW EMBRYO LIVES FOR THREE DAYS

No joke! Here is the gist of an article from news.com:

HUMAN-cow embryos have been created in a world first at Newcastle University in England, a team has grown hybrid embryos after injecting human DNA into eggs taken from cows' ovaries, which had most of their genetic material removed.

The embryos survived for three days and are intended to provide a limitless supply of stem cells to develop therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and spinal cord injuries, overcoming a worldwide shortfall in human embryos.

Under the licence, embryos are not allowed to be developed beyond 14 days.

"Cells grown using animal eggs cannot be used to treat patients on safety grounds, but they will help bring nearer the day when new stem cell therapies are available."

The Catholic Church view from a representative:

"An almost-human embryo is being created and then it's being destroyed, I cannot see that that respects human life or the dignity of human life. Human beings - or even almost human embryos - are not just things that you can use in a laboratory experiment...If this is approved...we will travel further down the slippery slope of allowing just about anything."

Hero Dog!

Seventy-seven year old Pauline Muggleton in Dorset fell in some thick undergrowth Saturday afternoon. After unsuccessful attempts by a search team and a helicopter with heat seeking equipment to find Pauline, it was none other but the Dorset search hound who found her!

The Sun reports that Mrs Muggleton’s daughter Sally Humberstone said “A couple of hours later and she would have been dead.”

Good boy!

News: Woman shoots Dog Owners over Christmas Decorations

No joke.

In Springfield, LA a 28-year-old woman Ethel Shannon Mckinney and her boyfriend Audie Ray Crisswell (34) shot at two dog owners after a harsh exchange of words over Mckinney's broken Christmas decorations outside of her mobile home. One man was shot in the upper torso and arm, and the other was wounded only in his arm.

Breaking News: PETA Fights AKC

Round 1!

I would think that PETA and the AKC would be BFFs, but PETA will show up at the American Kennel Club's Annual Championship Dog Show with signs saying "AKC Kills Shelter Dogs' Chances."

PETA's Side: Breeders and pet stores steal homes for orphaned pets in shelters

AKC's Side: Our pets are cute and we deserve an award!

Can't they just get along? Did no one watch Lady and the Tramp?
Which side are you on?

Would you drink rat's milk?

Wow. Well I love the planet, but I'm not sure if I love it as much as animal rights activist Heather Mills. In London Hyde Park, Mills reportedly promoted a billboard to support vegetarianism. Mill's argument: "The startling truth is that animals farmed for meat and dairy are now one of the greatest threats to the planet... Why don't we drink rat's milk or cat's milk or dog's milk?"

I don't think the question is why don't we, I think it's more about would we? Take our quiz!
