Walk 1,400 Miles In These Puppy's Shoes... Could You?

Kobe the Amazing Terrier... or dare I say "Terror" has finally been brought back to his native California home this week after having gone on an incredible 1,400 mile journey into Texas.
He went missing last month, and his family assumed he'd disappeared for good. That was until a stranger in Denton, Texas found him and brought him to a vet where they found his owner's information stored in a microchip implanted in his neck.
According to the company who manufactures the chips, an average of 1,200 stray animals a day are returned to their homes.
They've placed their implants in almost 2 million cats and dogs in America to date.

It's Official! We Love Pets More Than....

OURSELVES????
Yep you got it! With all of the current news out surrounding animals, and our love for them, it's just blatantly obvious that while we can stomach the images of war, starvation and death on the newscast every night, it's a heart wrenching affair to hear about the mistreatment of animals. In fact it's just gone TOO FAR!
Almost two thirds of homes in America own a pet. This year's estimated money spent in the pet industry is a whopping 41 billion dollars, up from a measly 38.5 billion last year! According to Bob Vetere, the president of the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, 42 percent of pets sleep in the same bed as their owners - up from 34 percent in 1998.
I'm pretty sure I can guess where Leona Helmsley's 12 million dollar pup Trouble slept......

Single? Love Your Pets? Listen up.. this may be why...

So apparently whether or not a potential companion sticks around with you does depend on what pet you own, how many you have, and how much money you spend on your precious little "fuzzy wuzzy."
Here's some of the research that the Guardian reported:
  • 48% of women admitted to being repelled at men who own pet spiders
  • Men are turned off by partners who pamper their pets, identified by owners who spend on average $100 or more per week on their pets.

  • One in four men said they would not date a woman with two or more cats
  • A third of women said they would avoid men who let cats sleep on their pillows
I think the shock piece of information that they found was that if a pet owner was forced to make a choice between their pet and their new mate because their companion turned out to be highly allergic, one quarter would stick with their pet! WHAT?!?!
I think it's perfectly expressed by Victoria Lukats, a psychiatrist at Sussex Partnership NHS trust in Brighton, who was involved in the survey, said: "The image of Paris Hilton and her pampered pets is one that seems to send most men running for the hills."
