Celebrities, Women in History and Dogs

Celebrities like Ashley Tisdale and Jessica Simpson weren't the first famous ladies to have a canine best friend. Some of the most famous women in history were dog lovers too!

Anne Boleyn had two dogs- Purkoy and Urian. " The name Urian means "devil's helper," and some pointed to her use of this name as evidence of witchcraft."

Mary Queen of Scots- had a Skye terrier given to her by a French princess.

Queen Henrietta Maria- went back into her house as it was being bombarded by shells and cannonballs to save her furry best friend!

Emily Dickinson- had a 16 year relationship with her Newfoundland dog given to her by her father.

We Salute: the Pomeranian!

Fun Facts about this tiny dog, with a big history:

The Pomeranian's ancestors originated in Greenland and Lapland where they were used as sled dogs!(Yes they were a lot bigger, about 20 pounds bigger than today) They were then taken to Europe in Pomerania where breeders focused on improving thier coats and breeding them to be more suitable for city living. But if you love how they fit perfectly in your lap, you owe your thanks to the English.

Characteristics:

The Pomeranian makes a great friend and watchdog because of its alertness and intelligence. But beware, this breed is known for its feistiness and at times being stubborn. This breed definetely needs a lot of love and attention.

Pomeranian Vocabulary:

Balanced Pomeranian- The head and legs are in porportion to the body.
